Dementia Friendly

South Brent and District Caring are working very hard to help to make South Brent a Dementia Friendly Community which has been kindly supported by The Clare Milne Trust.

We launched our Carers Support Group and Memory Cafe in April 2018, which gave carers in our community the opportunity to meet and talk with others in a similar position to themselves, whilst enjoying a cuppa.  Whilst the group is running, we began South Brent’s very own Memory Cafe for those who are cared for.  The Memory Cafe offers a range of activities from gentle exercise to music, jigsaws to art and this constantly evolves as time goes on.

As the Memory Cafe has proved so popular with carers and cared for alike, we extended the invitation to anyone who wished to join us for an afternoon session of fun, games, singing and even gentle exercise!  Therefore the Memory Cafe will continue in 2019 as The Wednesday Club and will run on every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2pm until 4pm at The Old School Community Centre.

Our first date back in 2019 will be on Wednesday 2nd January.

Further dates for 2019 are available from the Wednesday Club page under Regular Activities.

If you would like further information or would like to be involved in anyway, then please do give us a call or pop in to see us.

The South Brent and District Caring Library is now open with a variety of information on various aspects of later life and also dementia and the help available.

Examples of the information we hold are:

Wise Guides

1 – Advice for Later Life

2 – Extra Help at Home

3 – Healthy, Happy, Connected

4 – Choosing a Care Home

We also have copies of The Dementia Guide and various other booklets

In 2017 we held our own screening of the Glen Campbell film I’ll Be Me, which is the musical journey of Glen Campbell after he was diagnosed with Alzheimers.  This is also available to borrow from our library.
